The tour accommodation is located approximately 15 minutes from the airport and within a short distance of the beach. On arrival your team will be transferred to the accommodation and then given a 45 minute induction and orientation session. The rest of the afternoon will be free for the group to explore the local area and wander down to the beach.
The group will have a relaxed start to the morning and a chance to have an early morning swim and make the most of the facilities at the accommodation before heading off for a tour of the township communities, left impoverished by the history of apartheid. Here they will wander through an informal settlement and visit the Red Location Museum, documenting the history of the ‘struggle’ in the local area. Return to the accommodation in the afternoon to experience a traditional Xhosa and Zulu dance and drumming group performance and enjoy a traditional South African Braai (BBQ) around the fire in the evening.
The team will head out for their first day of sports coaching in the township communities. The schools in the township have no structured sports coaching as part of their school day, so visiting sports coaches are highly appreciated and warmly welcomed. The team will visit three different schools before heading back to the lodge to relax for the evening.
The second day of coaching in the township will see the team travelling to two schools to deliver the eagerly anticipated sports coaching to the kids. After a slightly earlier finish the team will have a few hours to prepare for their first match of the tour to take place in the evening.
After a tiring few days the team will take a much needed relaxing day trip to Jeffreys Bay, here they will have the opportunity to try out the traditional beach sport of Dune Boarding, on the mountainous J-Bay sand dunes. After this the team will enjoy a pub lunch before heading off to the Billabong factory outlet where Billabong attire is available for half the price of normal shops. Those that want to give Billabong a miss can try out some surf lessons or simply relax at the beach.
The team will enjoy their third day of coaching in the communities at two new schools and will enjoy the opportunity to interact with children who often have very little attention at school or at home where, it is not uncommon, to be one of eight siblings living with just a grandparent. After lunch there will be a few hours preparation for the evening match.
Enjoy a scenic two hour drive down to the beginning of the Garden Route passing through Storms River to get to the world’s highest commercial bungee jump, standing at 216 m high. For those adrenaline junkies the jump is waiting but for those who fancy something a bit more tame there are also other options in the area to enjoy, such as, a tree top canopy tour on zip wires or a visit to the local monkey land or elephant sanctuary. Your chance to get close to nature!
You can’t leave South Africa without seeing some African Cats. The team will spend the day at two different local game reserves; Kragga Kama, where they will be able to see an abundance of African wildlife roaming free, including Rhino, Giraffe and Buffalo. Then they will move on to Seaview Lion Park, home to more than 50 Lions (including the rare White Lion) as well as Leopard, Cheetahs and Crocodiles. For those who are slightly brave there is also an opportunity to go in the enclosure with some cubs or adolescent Lions. The day will finish off with an authentic meal under the stars cooked on an open fire, here the team will be able to try some local cuisine such as Kudu Pie.
On the final day the team will have a chance in the morning to explore the local market where they can pick up some local curios and souvenirs for friends and family, before departing for the airport to return home.
You will stay in our accommodation located in Newton Park, a small suburb of the coastal city of Port Elizabeth. The accommodation is located approximately 10km from the airport in a residential area. The beachfront is a short taxi ride.
Although basic, the accommodation is comfortable and you will find it very easy to relax after your day’s activities. You will live alongside the other travellers and our in-country team. This makes for a very safe, fun and extremely social environment. You will be staying in a dorm room of 4-10 people and will eat most of your meals together.
